This is the largest mayfly in New Zealand. It belongs to Ephemeridae, which is the only genus of burrowing mayfly in New Zealand. It is rather uncommon to see it in a river. However because of the size, it must be attractive to trout. The gills on an abdomen look like a feather and undulate quite softly.
